Young man turns himself in after violent crime

In Daytona Beach, Janaree Williams died from a gunshot wound when he was chasing Kyonte Upton. Upton fled the scene but turned himself in about 12 hours after the shooting, according to the Daytona Beach Police Chief. Williams was 19, and Upton is 18.

According to reports, Upton met up with Williams for a marijuana deal. A dispute arose over the sale. Upton shot into Williams’ vehicle as he was getting out and ran off. Williams attempted to drive after Upton but crashed into a tree because he couldn’t maintain control of his truck. He had been shot in the chest by Upton. It occurred in a residential area, and police were actively seeking Upton when he turned himself in.

The police arrested Upton on first-degree murder and for armed burglary. According to a report, his mother and family friend accompanied him when he turned himself in. He really needed to make sure he had a lawyer to ensure the protection of his rights. Guilty or not, he deserves due process of the law before the courts give him a verdict and a sentence if guilty.

Police believe that it was community pressure that forced Upton to turn himself in. The chief stated that he felt relieved no one else was hurt by stray bullets. There may be surveillance video that will confirm what happened, but that evidence is not available to the public. There were witnesses to the fight and Williams’ death, which will most certainly help the prosecutor’s case.

Police are serious are about taking criminals off the streets to prevent future crimes, but Upton does need to present a strong defense to get the best possible outcome for his situation. It is sad that two young men lost their futures over this incident. Upton faces severe consequences for his crime, but he still needs an advocate to make sure his rights are protected.
